Jessica Pollack Memorial Tribute

Jessica Pollack Not Just Art will be hosting a memorial tribute in Jessica's honor at Eastwoods School in Oyster Bay on Sunday, March 8, 2009, from 2-4pm.

We invite you to join us as we gather to celebrate and remember Jessica's life though pictures, words, dance, and music. Performances and readings will be given by her family, friends, and colleagues.

While the day may contain poignant moments along with joyful memories, children are of course welcome to be a part of the event.

An online guest book has been set up for Jessica on legacy.com. There you may find stories and wishes from her friends, colleagues, and our many Not Just Art families from these past 15 years. We invite anyone who would like to do so, to add their own memories or condolences. It is a lovely compilation and tribute.

Jessica Pollack, Not Just Art Founder
1949-2008

Dear Friends,

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Jessica Pollack, the founder and owner of Not Just Art, died on the morning of October 3, 2008, at her home after a long illness. She was 58 years old.

A true Renaissance woman, Jessica was a dancer, educator, Music Together® director and business owner, world traveler, and gourmand. She was passionate in all of her pursuits and continually sought new challenges.

Born in New Rochelle on December 22, 1949, the daughter of Leo Pollack and Dorothy Rosenberg, Jessica grew up in Mount Vernon, New York.

She studied dance at Ohio State University and the University of Michigan, and received her Masters of Early Childhood Education at the College of New Rochelle. She lived and taught in Toronto for 15 years, then later at the School for Language and Communication Development, now located in Glen Cove, New York.

In 1992 Jessica founded Not Just Art with the belief that all children have creative potential, and that each one deserves a space to freely discover and develop their own unique strengths. As a teacher of young children and as a teaching mentor, Jessica both lit up a room and helped those around her to shine.

Jessica is survived by her husband, Robert Cook of Cold Spring Harbor, and by her sister, Miriam Pollack of New York City. She will be lovingly remembered by her friends, colleagues, employees, and clients.

Donations may be made to Not Just Art, to be designated in a memorial fund in Jessica's honor, helping to provide creative opportunities for children and families in need.

As per Jessica's wishes, Not Just Art will remain in business under the partnership and direction of general manager and former assistant director Eva Regulski, who has been with Not Just Art since its first year, and Mara Esposito, Not Just Art's Education Director since 2001.
